Product Description
Leather Textile Martindale Pilling Wear Abrasion Tester
Summary
Martindale abrasion tester subjects a circular specimen (38mm in diameter, and effective diameter is 28.8mm) to a defined load and rubs against an abrasive medium (i.e. standard fabric) in a translational movement tracing a Lissa-jous figure. The specimen holder, containing either specimen or abrasive medium depending on which method is being used, is additionally freely rotatable around its own axis perpendicular to the plane of the horizontal. The evaluation of the abrasion resistance of the textile fabric is determined from the inspection interval to breakdown, the mass loss the test specimens, assessment of the appearance change.

FAQ's of Leather Textile Martindale Pilling Wear Abrasion Tester:
Q: How does the Martindale Wear Abrasion Tester assess abrasion and pilling resistance?
A: The tester evaluates abrasion and pilling by moving fabric or leather specimens in a defined pattern under a specified load against an abradant, simulating natural wear. This process measures how many cycles the sample endures before showing visible wear or pilling, providing a quantitative assessment of material durability.
Q: What testing standards does this equipment comply with?
A: This Martindale tester fully complies with ISO 12947, BS 5690, ASTM D4970, and EN ISO 12945 standards, making it suitable for both domestic and international testing requirements for textiles and leather materials.
Q: Where is this tester best utilized?
A: The Martindale Wear Abrasion Tester excels in quality control and research laboratories, textile manufacturing plants, and leather goods factories. It is ideal wherever accurate, repeatable abrasion and pilling testing is essential to ensuring product durability and compliance.
Q: When should I use the 9 kPa versus the 12 kPa load weights?
A: Use the 9 kPa load for testing standard textiles and the 12 kPa load when assessing upholstery fabrics and leather. This ensures each material is tested under the appropriate conditions, as per industry-standard protocols.
Q: What is the typical process to run a test using this machine?
A: Begin by preparing and mounting the specimens according to the user manual. Select the number of cycles on the LED digital display and set the appropriate load. The machine will then move the samples under preset conditions. Upon completion, results can be read directly from the digital display for evaluation.
Q: What benefits does this tester offer for manufacturers and suppliers?
A: Manufacturers and suppliers benefit from its precision, capacity to test multiple samples simultaneously, adherence to strict international standards, and user-focused digital control. These features streamline quality control, enhance product reliability, and enable compliance with market requirements.
Q: How accurate are the results and what is the smallest measurable increment?
A: The test results are accurate to a single cycle, with the machine's resolution and accuracy both at 1 cycle. This high level of precision ensures reliable data for material performance evaluation.
